BEHIND EVERY SMILE
Dental Implant
What is Dental Implant?
Dental implants are artificial structures that a dental surgeon inserts into a person’s jawbone.

An individual may need an implant if they have lost one or more teeth.

When it comes to replacing missing teeth or rehabilitating your smile, we at Shri Vidya Dental Clinic recommend dental implants. Implants are designed to mimic the natural anatomy of tooth roots, allowing them to be set into the jaw in a way that supports permanent restoration such as a porcelain crown, bridge or stabilized dentures. Made from titanium, these biocompatible restorations integrate with the body the same way hip or shoulder replacements (also made of titanium) do. In fact, they trigger new bone growth around them to keep them securely in place: a process that we call “osseointegration.”

The crown is custom-made to fit the person’s mouth and match the color of their teeth. Crowns look, feel, and function like natural teeth.

What are the advantages of Implants over Dentures?

-
Dental Implants are more natural and comfortable
-
The treatment has a higher success rate
-
Dental Implants improve chewing function
-
lead to a lower risk of cavities developing in nearby teeth
-
lead to better maintenance of bone at the site of the lost tooth
-
Decreased sensitivity in nearby teeth
-
Do not need to be taken out and cleaned every night

* However, dental implants are not suitable for everyone. The implanting devices must bond with the jawbone, so a person’s bones must be healthy before they can undergo dental implant surgery.

PROCEDURE

An implant is a fine rod of metal that is inserted into the jawbone. It takes the place of the natural root, which was removed when the tooth was extracted. This titanium root or implant can anchor a replacement crown or a bridge that is cemented or screwed to it.

Titanium is used as it is exceptionally well tolerated by the human body, and is seldom rejected. It is also extremely strong and durable. Dental implantation is a very successful method of replacing single or multiple missing teeth. Implants can be used to anchor an individual replacement crown, or a bridge replacing one or more missing teeth. Implants permit normal and comfortable chewing.

Every Individual is likely to have a different experience of dental implant surgery. Factors that may influence this include:

-
The number of teeth requiring replacement
-
The location of the implants within the jaw
-
The quality and quantity of bone at the implant site
-
The person’s underlying oral and systemic health

Depending on these factors, additional procedures may be necessary.

Implants fuses to the jawbone, offering stable support to artificial teeth. Dentures, bridges or individual teeth mounted to the implants won't slip or shift in the mouth, an important benefit while eating and speaking.

Three Step Process we follow at Shri Vidya Dental Clinic.
• Step One: is the placement of titanium implants to replace the lost teeth. These implants will remain covered underneath the gum for a couple of months. During this time, the implants fuse with the bone.
• Step Two: Involves uncovering the implants and attaching a post to each implant. This completes the foundation on which the new teeth will be placed.
• Step Three: is the placement of your new teeth by the doctor.
With techniques that ensure optimal size, shape, colour and fit, your replacement teeth should blend with your remaining teeth.

Maintenance

After a person has undergone dental implant surgery, they must continue to brush and floss their teeth regularly. Artificial teeth require the same care and maintenance as regular teeth. The surgeon or dentist will also schedule follow-up visits to monitor the implants and make sure that the teeth and gums are healthy. It is important to return to the dentist every 6 months for professional cleanings.
